Now before I became a quasi-anonymous commentator legend, I was known as Michael Daddino. (I still am, in certain obscure circles.) Once, during that long-gone era, I watched 24 hours of MTV and wrote about it on the internet in real-time; thus the concept of the liveblog was forged in the smithy of my soul.

Today I return to my old stomping grounds, all Proverbs 26:11-style, to point and laugh at...well, what's it going to be today, kiddies? What's it gonna be? Contrite Britney? Egotasmic Kanye? The JoBros making their inevitable Fleet Foxes move? Nickleodeon crossovers? Candidate cameos? Overrehearsed spontaneity? Underwhelming medleys? Regrettable covers? A smidge of actual entertainment? Yes, we are likely to get them all: the stars will it so.

Since MTV's Video Music Awards-related Twitter feed has lain dormant for the past seven months, I've decided to pick up the slack—and get you all ready for our liveblog, which starts at 8 p.m. ET— by updating Idolator's account on the microblogging service with notes from the red carpet. Whether or not AT&T's network will look kindly on this experiment in liver-the-liveblogging is up in the air, but hey, that's part of the fun of "experimentation," right? [Twitter]

Greetings, Defamer readers! We have something special in store for you today, as the MTV Music Video Awards—the most prestigious of all awards shows celebrating achievement in a medium that peaked when fax machines still seemed cutting-edge—are coming to you from the heart of Hollywood, at Paramount Studios. A plate of Mexican food was all it took to let a homeless man use his body as a human stepladder and hop the gate, giving Defamer editor Seth Abramovitch and associate editor Kyle Buchanan access to the Russell Brandiest musical extravaganza this side of Western Ave! We're not sure what to expect today, or whether any of this might be of interest to you, but for what it's worth, we're already having a ball. We followed a small mob of Christina Aguilera's accountants/background dancers into the actual soundstage, and have been watching the dress rehearsal. So much drama! Miley Cyrus has no power in her dressing room! Her hair people are flipping out! And Lil' Wayne is trapped in a bus at the gate! While we now see how long it takes for it to get back to security that we're actual inside, we'll leave you with the first of what is sure to be many exciting exclusives: An interview with Brand's troubled VMA promo spots co-star. It's 92 degrees Fahrenheit here, and we haven't had a break all week. Our holiday Monday was disrupted by the accidental announcement of Google's new browser, Chrome, via a comic strip delivered a day early to a German blogger. The comic proved unreadable except to programmers, but 4chan Photoshops of it were huge. X-Files star David Duchovny turned himself in for rehab after acknowledging his ... um, porn addiction? That was funnier than the new Microsoft ads starring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. It was more serious than any of the coverage of the Republican national convention — our most clicked video was the footage of dancing delegates. From which we gather that it's not 92 in Minneapolis. Windows only: Less than a week since Google Chrome's release and hackers are already hard at work releasing tools to tweak the minimalistic browser, and the Automatic Theme Switcher is one of those ways. Install the beta theme switcher on your PC running Chrome to choose one of three skins for Chrome—black, blue (the default), or green—and activate it immediately, without having to manually muck around in Chrome's installation folders. Alternately, you can manually download Google Chrome themes here (the orange one isn't available in the Theme Switcher utility just yet). The Automatic Theme Switcher is a free download for Windows only.

Tatango, a free (but ad-supported) group SMS-messaging service, has opened its doors after private beta. The service is simple to use, and prevents spammers by requiring contacts to opt into receiving messages from you. That makes it ideal for sports teams and social groups, small businesses, and other small organizations. You can send group messages from the site or your phone, and open up message-sending privileges to other members in your group. Tatango is a free, ad-supported service, requires a sign-up to use.

A British scene group CaRaT pred a fourth episode of a fairly new TV show How Not To Live Your Life. This sitcom aired at BBC3 reminds me of shows as The I.T. Crowd or Big Bang Theory, but it’s not that geeky. PDTV quality in 230 MB release.

The Young Ones - Dan Clark. Sitcom about 20-something Don, a man with bad luck and even worse instincts, whose overactive imagination is always in full flow in the form of quick-fire fantasy sequences as he imagines what he would really like to say. Don meets a girl who is nine years younger than him whilst working as a charity street collector. He hangs out with her and her friends, but soon realises hes not the hip young dude he once thought he was.

A cool new blue Zune was spotted at Fry's today, complete with some new features. The first, “Device to Cloud,” allows users to access wireless hotspots to update music collections, browse Zune Marketplace, refresh Channels (another feature), exchange favorites, and buy tagged FM songs. "Channels" are custom stations that deliver "personalized playlists" to the Zune, and the cleverly named "Games" feature is, well, about games. l0rdnic0, an administrator over at Acid Mods, has video of the unholy union of an Xbox 360 QWERTY with a PSP Slim. While the mod works just fine, as you can see in the video, we worry about the fanboys. Seeing something like this in action must be kind of like how Brendan Fraser's character felt we he woke up for the first time in Encino Man. It doesn't make sense. It can't make sense. Because then everything you've based you life on—every waking moment—was a lie.

My PSP’s are running CFW 4.01 M33-2, a special version of piKey and a custom flash on the Chatpad. Text input is a breeze and it works with the Sony OSK (on screen keyboard) and the Danzeff OSK under AFKIM. It does not work with PSPWrite and other ZX-81 applications because they are not compiled to do so but Jean is working on a compatible drive to make them work natively.
